LAY LOW
Lay Low began producing and recording music over 12 years ago as a means to both escape and connect. While many in his circles fell prey to violence, drugs, and poverty, Lay Low began to produce beats and create lyrics. This escape felt necessary, he says, as a way to avoid the traps surrounding him and to give himself a voice. He still has the cassette on which he recorded his first beat, made using just a sampler and a 4-track.
He was inspired at a young age by a close friend who was a member of one of Toronto’s earliest Hip-Hop crews, the Cryptic Souls Crew. Since then, he has consistently surrounded himself with hip-hop culture: graffiti, breakdancing, lyricism, and DJing. To date, he’s worked with innumerable artists and toured internationally. He plans to keep using music as his medium of expression and reaching out to his community through his art.

His music focuses on personal themes and sociopolitical concerns of his community, homeland and international relations.
